Cycling in Tasmania and, sometimes, beyond

In 2024 I set a target to cycle my age each week. That was 77 kilometres per week until May when the target increased to 78 ks. For various reasons I did not manage this!!

By January 2025 I had not set cycling targets for the new year. There were a few things going on unrelated to cycling that took my time. These include a few health issues plus a desire to focus on some non-cycling camping trips.

In 2026 I plan to set monthly goals once again to create some impetus to get out and ride. There will be few if any camping trips but (hopefully) more day rides in different areas.

This Blog is about how all this is going. I will try not to make it a blog on how to continue riding as the body deteriorates with age but there will be some of that too !!

Born in 1946 I learnt to cycle about 10 years later. On a bike with rods connecting brake levers to the brakes - anyone remember those? I emigrated to Australia (from the UK) in 1974 and moved to Tasmania in 1984. Bicycles were in my life for most of that time although sometimes they were replaced by motorised two wheels for a bit more excitement. On reaching 70 I decided to stick to pedal power but in 2019 an electric recumbent made an appearance. it's now 2023 and I have 3 bikes. 2 e-recumbents and the Brompton.

  1. Hi Tony
good to hear you got back from your epic Vic/SA ride in one piece, you don’t know anyone who wants to by a trike do you?
    Cheers Rob

    1. Sorry Rob – don’t know of anyone. I thought it must be yours on Gumtree.

A pity it didn’t work for you but I trust the two wheel version is still working well.
